MISSION

Based on Leah Joki’s three decades of experience as a teaching artist, author, Institutional Artist Facilitator, Mentor and Consultant in more than 30 prisons, No Joke Theater offers a complete theatrical experience to the incarcerated and returning citizens. The program focuses on acting, playwriting, directing, stage management and design by using classical, contemporary and original material from which the participants learn responsibility, communication skills, empathy and the desire to live life differently.

Juilliard to Jail

A memoir of my eighteen-year career in prison. The film rights have been optioned to and are being developed into a feature film by Joe Manganiello and his production company 359inc.

 

The Poppovichs

November 2019

A full length play. Selected and produced by The Downtown Dance Collective in association with the Montana Playwrights Network for their first Premiere Project.

Prison Boxing

A one-woman show about prison. It premiered at the Skylight Theatre Company in Los Angeles in April 2015 for a seven week run. It has been performed at the University of San Francisco, California State University San Marcos, the Crystal Theater and the Downtown Dance Collective in Montana.

A humorous one-act play about a woman’s inner angst. It premiered at the Crystal Theater in Missoula, MT in October 2014.
